Eligibility: educational qualification
Candidates must satisfy the essential educational requirements as specified for each post. Open and distance learning (ODL) degrees are not permissible where specified.
- Executive Trainee (Electrical): Minimum 60% marks in B.E./B.Tech in Electrical Engineering or Electrical & Electronics Engineering (or equivalent, courses approved by UGC/AICTE where applicable).
- Executive Trainee (Mechanical) – all divisions: Minimum 60% marks in B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent, courses approved by UGC/AICTE where applicable).
- No post-qualification experience is required; all posts are for freshers.
- Candidates must have cleared UPSC ESE 2024 written exam, appeared for the ESE 2024 interview, consented to sharing their score on UPSC’s website, and must not have been recommended for final selection by UPSC.
Age limit and relaxations
The maximum age limit is specified with applicable relaxations as of the crucial date 01 August 2026.
- Unreserved (UR): 28 years
- SC/ST: 28 years + 5 years relaxation
- OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 28 years + 3 years relaxation
- PwD – General: 28 years + 10 years relaxation; PwD – SC/ST: +15 years; PwD – OBC-NCL: +13 years
- Ex-Servicemen: As per Government of India guidelines
- Internal candidates: Relaxation up to 1 year subject to CMD approval
Selection process
MECL will select candidates solely on the basis of UPSC ESE 2024 scores; no separate written test or interview will be conducted by MECL. Shortlisted candidates will undergo document verification before offers are issued.
- Applicant lists will be prepared in decreasing order of UPSC ESE 2024 marks (out of 1200), category-wise, for the relevant discipline.
- Eligible candidates will be shortlisted based on their UPSC ESE 2024 score and MECL’s recruitment rules.
- Shortlisted candidates will be called for document verification; offers will be issued if documents match advertisement criteria.
- Tie-breaking: seniority in age (as per Matriculation certificate) first, then higher aggregate percentage in the essential engineering degree.
Salary and other benefits
Selected candidates will join as Executive Trainees on a one-year training period with pay and benefits as per MECL rules.
- Initial Basic Pay: ₹40,000 per month in E-1 (IDA) pay scale of ₹40,000–₹1,40,000, plus applicable Industrial Dearness Allowance (IDA).
- Other benefits include House Rent Allowance (HRA), cafeteria-approach allowances, Provident Fund (PF), National Pension System (NPS), Performance Related Pay, group medical insurance, MECL-Employee Defined Contributory Superannuation Scheme, group personal accident and term insurance, and eligible loan/advance facilities as per company rules.

- General/OBC/EWS candidates: ₹500 (non-refundable).
- Fee exempt: SC/ST/PwD/Ex-Servicemen/Departmental candidates.

Important instructions and conditions
Applicants should note the key conditions and service obligations applicable to selected candidates.
- Only Indian nationals are eligible to apply.
- Selected candidates will undergo one-year training and may be posted to any MECL project/office/establishment across India.
- Appointment is subject to medical fitness certification by a Government Medical Officer/CMO of a Government Hospital.
- Selected executives/Executive Trainees must serve a minimum of 36 months; a retention deduction of ₹5,000 per month will be made from salary and refunded on completion of 36 months.
- A service bond of ₹1.8 lakh is required to be executed to serve MECL for a minimum of 36 months.
- Category certificates must be valid as of 01 August 2026; UPSC ESE 2024 category status does not automatically apply.
- Candidates working in government/PSUs/autonomous bodies should apply through proper channel or produce a No Objection Certificate (NOC) at document verification.
